Opticos Principal Daniel Parolek to Lead Walking Tour of Oakland Missing Middle Housing

This weekend, Opticos is headed to the California Chapter of the American Planning Association’s 2015 Conference: Rooted in AuthentiCITY. Daniel Parolek, Tony Perez and John Miki will all be presenting at the event, which will take place at the Oakland City Center Marriott and run from Saturday, October 3 through Tuesday, October 6.

We are excited to share that Dan will be leading a special session, a walking tour of Oakland in which participants view the Missing Middle Housing types in Oakland while learning sketch and photography techniques. From the conference program:

This workshop will give participants the tools and knowledge to explore and document Missing Middle Housing types throughout their communities, to refine zoning and general plan policies and land use maps to remove barriers and to encourage high quality mixed density, to discuss housing choices without using the term“density,” and to understand their role in responding to the growing demand for walkable urban living and household affordability

Dan will be joined by a panel of speakers:

  • Bob Brown, AICP, Interim Planning Director, City of Novato
  • Darin Ranelletti, Deputy Director of Planning, City of Oakland
  • John Miki, LEED-AP, Associate, Opticos Design
