Soft Solutions to Preserve and Protect Huê´, Vietnam

When I last wrote, I talked a bit about the contemporary problems facing the city of Huê´ that the Huê´ Monuments Conservation Center is actively working to address, with particular regards to heritage preservation. During the workshop our team learned that Huê´ is confronting some pretty serious environmental pressures as well—­environmental pressures that are becoming increasingly relevant due to climate change.

Our Huê´ workshop wrapped up this past Thursday, April 4, with a final presentation to distinguished guests in Hue’s 19th-century Royal Theater. The workshop was an incredible experience in many ways, one that I am just beginning to fully comprehend.

Building Healthy Communities in South Kern County

A few weeks ago I traveled to South Kern County, CA, to wrap up a project for three rural communities outside of Bakersfield. While we’ve completed over two dozen urban design plans for small towns and rural communities in California, “Improving Safety and Mobility in South Kern County” was unique in many ways, and provided a lot of insight into how communities with limited resources might work to successfully overcome obstacles.
